Iron Mic 2/19/2011 in Video

The latest edition of the Iron Mic series of freestyle sessions at Rocky Mountain Tavern was the place to be. The number of emcees performing in the battle for cash prizes may have been down a little, because of an unfortunate scheduling conflict, but the number of people in attendance to take in the free flowing, creative environment continues to grow and grow.

Adam and Adrian are putting on a much needed and relevant event, and if you don’t know about it, you do now, and you need to hop on board. The format tends to vary from night to night, but typically it commences with a ‘warm up session’ accompanied by a live band. Anyone is welcome to step up to the stage, grab the mic and share what they got. To follow is usually a session called ’emcee vs. beatbox’. Beatbox starts out slow, gradually gaining speed as the freestyling emcee tries to keep up. Sometimes the emcee gives first, sometimes beatbox tosses the towel, either way it’s adventurous and entertaining. This past event featured a segment they called ‘build-a-jam’ where the emcees take topic suggestions from the audience and build a freestyle session around them.

You will see all of this and more, including clips from the battle, in the video below. Congratulation to Benny Fax for taking home the prize. A job well done to the other competitors Adrian Caballero, Jake Pains and Pinnacle TheHustler.
